What was your major learning from the week in telecommunications?

I found this module fascinating as telecommunications is paving the way and change is inevitable. I was somewhat resistant to change however researching helped me to deal effectively when embracing change.

What was your major struggle from the week in telecommunications?

My major struggle was to find ideas that will add value considering Covid-19 and how telecommunications can help resolve the gaps.

How does what you have learned about in your chosen topic affect the way you manage information systems in your business context?

Reviewing the Video and interviews, gave me insight into what Challenges CEO’s and MD’s are facing. Covid-19 left a huge disconnect and caught the world of business by surprise. Some businesses looked at building current business models and others reinventing their business models to make allowance for this Gap. The consensus and main ideas coming through were to bridge the gaps between Business and the clients, using telecommunications. The High-level Case study conducted by IBM was quite informative especially pertaining to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

A business should not only make revenue and numbers be its main goal however it should practice and operate in a Full circle whereby everyone benefits from value-added as indicated below

· Society’s well-being (protection of children from bullying and other forms of abuse)

· Reduce their carbon footprint and

· Reduce travel costs using alternatives like mobile virtual private networks, video- and teleconferencing.

· Reduce the impact on the environment and cut waste management costs.

I feel being an Information Systems Manager is not just a title but a responsibility. One should lead by example and always look at the business holistically and ask questions around value-adding and having a sense of purpose. It is my opinion that one needs to treat the business as your own and always allow others within the organization the opportunity to “BUY-IN” as we are all part of one system trying to add value. There are no limits to Telecommunications and the more we embrace change and learn from our circumstances we allow ourselves to venture to other future worlds.
