What was your major learning from the week, ERP, and how did it add value to your role as a manager?

I thoroughly enjoyed this module as it was very interesting. One takes things for granted when it comes to your place of work and especially supermarkets. We tend to give little or no thought about how businesses operate and function. I can clearly distinguish the differences and how the software fits in with my company. The Information Systems Manager has an exciting role to play when Implementing changes. It’s quite rewarding to know that the changes I implement will affect the company’s operation and profitability. Change is inevitable and on-going as businesses are always finding better ways to provide better goods and services. The Information Systems Manager provides and connects the business requirement with the IT solution.

In which of the two topics was your major struggle from the week, and how does that bring value to your role as a manager?

My major concern was, how it is all inter-connects and how the Information Systems Manager will implement the software. ERP software is a complex system however it helps the business reach its goals and objectives. Each implementation will present the Manager with new challenges and ultimately leading to an increase in skillset.

How does what you have learned about, in either of the two topics, affect the way you manage information systems in your business context?

The Business process and requirement elicitation are very important and need to be a priority before attempting any implementation. It is vital to involve all stakeholders and always encourage dialogue. It is important to have the right project team on board and business objectives should be clearly defined. As an Information Systems Manager, I learned that it is important to ask the right questions and always be proactive before implementing any new Software. I firmly believe that participation, transparency, openness, and teamwork are key to the success of any project.
