What was your major learning from the week in management in the global environment? How does it add value to your role as a manager?

This module was a real eye-opener as it was truly a learning curve. I work for a global company and it gave me a brief glimpse of what my company’s challenges are when it comes to foreign markets. There is a number of complexities and challenges that come with Globalization. I found Cultural, Political, and Geo-economic challenges very exciting as it is a great opportunity to spark one’s creativity and innovative thinking. A business that tailors its model around value-adding and Social responsibility are great ingredients in becoming successful. In a previous Module, we were introduced to the pros and cons of products and services and it made me realize that we still have an on-going responsibility when it comes to after-sales services. It’s all about building customer relationships and bringing the client to the heart of the business.

What was your major struggle from the week in management or IT in the global environment? How does it add value to your role as a manager?

I had no challenges and the case studies sparked my creative and innovative side. In a B2B approach, I believe a business can only be successful when it adds value to other businesses or customers and their success stories will ultimately define your success as a business. It’s all about adding value and building a long-term relationship with existing or new customers as this will equip a business in securing a competitive advantage.

How does what you have learned about, in either of the two topics, affect the way you manage information systems in your business context?

People and Cultures play a vital role in the local and global markets. Communication and cultural differences, Diverse practices, meager telecommunication, and lack of standardization are challenges for GIS. The biggest mistake companies make when trying to access emerging or existing Global markets and base their hopes on the perceptions and assumptions that “One size fits all” will result in failure. Globalization comes with Challenges however it takes a great CIO and IS Manager to see the opportunities and innovation, Globalization presents. The success of any venture provides a sense of value and purpose and this is more rewarding.
